This may look like a traditional English styled village – but it’s in China – check out the skyscraper in the background. Thames Town is only about 19 miles (30 kilometers) from the center of Shanghai. One of several international themed suburban areas in Shanghai developed in the early 2000s; they were intended to help relocate people out of the densely populated inner city. The final development was ultimately unaffordable for many to buy homes in, so these days the largely unoccupied town is used more by locals as a venue for wedding photographs.
