9. Be wary of thieves

Thieves aren’t as big of a problem in Hawaii as it is in other parts of the country, but you still don’t want to wake up to find your bag, socks, or tent missing. Just be sure to keep an eye on your belongings wherever you are, and be sure to pack your valuables – passport, cell phone, etc. – in an easy-to-reach, difficult-to-access part of your bag. Locking your backpack’s zips together can help tremendously.
