In more ways than one, Toronto is given far less credit than it really deserves. True, it might not be as glorious as some of the other cities like Vancouver. But make no mistake, Toronto has its own reasons to pull you in, too. The city is ever changing and the innovation is constant. There is some new attraction popping up every year. If you are thinking of a trip to the city, here are some of the reasons why you should go for it.

The Toronto Zoo

Traveling with kids? Then treat them to a fun and educational time at the Toronto Zoo. It is primarily an open-air zoo with an evergreen river valley in the background. The zoo is home to over 5000 animals and it constantly gets new arrivals. Amongst the newest comers are two Chinese Pandas.

But a visit to the zoo is not all about seeing animals. There is some adventure to be had, too. If you are looking for innovative zip lining, then try TundraAir. It’s a unique experience where you get to fly over wolves, bears, and other animals at a speed of almost 50 km per hour.

Walk on the edge of the CN Tower

The CN Tower is the iconic spire that gives Toronto’s skyline its signature look. It’s a concrete observation and communications tower that goes over 500 meters high. There is a new attraction that has pulled in crowds from all over Canada and the world – The Edge Walk. You get to walk on an outdoor platform that protrudes from the very top part of the tower. The walk is done hands-free but, for obvious reasons, you will be anchored by a harness.

Kensington Market

You don’t have to be much of a foodie to enjoy the culinary offerings of Kensington Market. The sheer diversity of the food there will delight any palate. This is where you will find some of the most popular cuisines from different parts of the world, all in one place. You can enjoy Venezuelan, Chinese, Ethiopian, Jamaican, Italian dishes, and more. The experienced cooks will once in a while give you something you have never tasted anywhere before, by combining dishes from different traditions.

Ripley’s Aquarium

Ripley’s Aquarium will thrill adults and young ones alike. It’s located right at the base of the CN tower and is packed with unforgettable aquatic fun sights. It hosts a colossal 13,500 species of animals that you can get to see up close. There are some rare sea animals that you probably have never heard of, and also some of the most popular ones such as sharks, green sea turtles, jellyfish, and rays.

Getting Around Toronto

There are all sorts of ways to get around the city. It’s not difficult to navigate whether by public transport or personal car. It all depends on your budget and how much time you have to spend on your journey. Most hotels can be found right at the subway substations, streetcar stops, and bus stops.

Trains: Toronto is equipped with a subways system with above ground, underground, and surface level train lines. This is a rapid transit system that will get you to your destination for cheap. One ride costs $3 per person, for each continuous ride in one direction. You can even get a discount by buying multiple tokens.

By driving: It is possible to drive yourself around Toronto as a tourist. But, if you would like to have a hassle-free experience, you’re better off just parking the car in a lot and just walking around. The traffic can be a nightmare.

Cabs: you can easily catch a cab especially downtown. There are plenty of companies offering the service. All you have to do is stand on the curb and soon enough, one will show up. You will know it’s available if it has a lit up sign on top. The rate is about $3.3 for up to 4 passengers and this goes up by $0.25 for every 143 meters you are driven.

Best time to Visit Toronto

Toronto is filled with tourists in summer and this is the most expensive time to visit. The weather is at its best from late April to May, and from September to October. If you are looking to save on your visit, your best bet would be to go during the winter months.
